ZADNJIH PET LET

2019

In Brown's story, whose interesting note is certainly the temporal division, we pass from the present, to the past, to the future with an astonishing speed.

The story is told, in fact, following two distinct timelines.
The protagonists are never present at the same time in the same timeline, except in a single moment: during the scene that recalls their wedding.

In this way, every moment of crisis for the couple is heightened, every moment of silence magnified and an idea of isolation and solitude reigns.

The Opera was designed and built for a space not specifically theatrical.

The strength of this set is the central scene, therefore the possibility to see the singers from any point of view. The spectators, sitting all around, see the same scene with different angles, each person can catch different details of the same elements.

The scenic space has been studied deepening the concept of ritual, starting from the rite itself of theatrical representation, in which the spectator participates, as much as the actors and musicians, in the event that is taking place.

Here, then, that viewers, seeing the show, also see themselves and feel observed.

In Purcell's Opera there are very many ritual themes: the foundation of Carthage, falling in love, marriage, the presence of witches, until the death of Dido by means of a fiery pyre.

Deepening the character of Dido one can realize that there is also a "transformation rite" of the woman Didone in the queen Dido.

"Tum vero infelix fatis exterrita Dido mortem orat" (Eneide, Book IV) these are the words carved in the center of the scene, on the sides of the bed. This, chosen as an essential symbol of Dido's life, becomes a metaphor for mourning, love and death.
